Homebody: Online Somatic Processing & Practice Group
A deeply supportive and experiential 4-week group for cultivating the relationship between
mind, body, and spirit in connection with others.
homebody descriptions and copy written by Bethany Berens
This online somatic group work is about:
listening to your body
learning the language of the nervous system
making space for all parts of yourself and aspects of your experience
unearthing the connections between emotions, sensations, thoughts, images, actions, and memories
experiencing your mind/body/spirit as a wise, interconnected ecosystem
remembering that humans are ecosystems within ecosystems, and we need each other
After 13 years of clinical collaboration and somatic journeying together, I am thrilled to be co-leading an offering with the curious heart, synthesizing mind and intuitive soul of fellow therapist and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner Bethany Berens, LCMHC, SEP. You can learn about her unique blend of soul work with depth counseling and somatics here.

Choosing A Rate
The standard rate reflects the true cost of Julie and Bethany's investment in preparation, facilitation, teaching, and the unseen labor that goes into creating a deeply anchored and nourishing space. If you’re able to pay the supporter rate, you help make room for someone who needs a lower rate. If you need the community supported or scholarship rate, please take it and know that you are welcome and wanted in group.
How To Enroll
Choose the rate that fits your situation (see above), click Enroll, and fill out the registration form that will pop up on the next screen.
OUR GOAL FOR HOMEBODY
This is a space to get to gently know your nervous system, noticing not just how it signals fear or threat, but how it signals ease, safety, and desire. A space to learn what allows your particular nervous system to find more equilibrium and aliveness. A space to practice moving at the pace of your own needs, your own body.
Groups are complicated for lots of us. Maybe we don’t like meeting new people. Maybe we’re afraid of taking up too much space. Maybe we get overstimulated. Most of us have had annoying or difficult group experiences in our lives. It’s ok to come with all of that history to this group. The magic is in seeing and feeling that we are all just human-sized — needing to feel supported, needing space to practice being in our bodies, needing to be weird in whatever way we are afraid to be weird.
You are welcome to come exactly as you are to this group. Whether you’re new to somatic/embodiment work, have been on the path for a while, or if you’re a therapist or somatic practitioner yourself. You’re welcome if you’re curious, skeptical, or deeply invested. You’re welcome as one who has much to offer in holding space for yourself and others, or as one who is burned out and needing rest. This is a space of collective care and mutuality: bringing what we have, receiving what we need.
The world we’re in pushes us to the limits of our capacity — pushes us to go fast, feel less, produce more, silence our intuition, ignore our pain and the suffering of others. Larger systems often profit off of division, scarcity, and fear. In this group, we create an alternative rhythm, an alternative way. We honor all intersecting identities, all bodies, all neurotypes. We make space to feel, listen, and connect. We honor lived wisdom, internal pacing, intuition, and our innate capacity to heal.
Hope you’ll join us!

you’re struggling, as many are, with staying connected to your humanity, hope, values, resilience, and direction in this time of global turmoil

Each week will offer space to show up as you are (really!), get to know your nervous system, and receive care.
We’ll practice listening to the body and paying attention to different channels of experience (sensation, emotion, images, movement, impulses), noticing how the nervous system signals safety, threat, needs, and more.
We’ll experiment with somatic resources and practices to discover what allows your particular nervous system to find more equilibrium and aliveness.
We’ll also explore concepts and questions that come up as the process unfolds.

It can be SO HARD for therapists / healers / somatic practitioners to 1. get in touch with our need for care 2. allow ourselves to receive care, and 3. trust or believe that a collective space will be able to hold us well. There are some real binds here, and that isn’t lost on us (the facilitators) who are also therapists and have struggled with the same things.
This group is intended to meet you where you are — as someone who holds clinical wisdom and skill, but who also needs and deserves care.
We hope you will trust us to honor your need for a sturdy space to be welcomed, to let down, and to be held in your own process.es here

This group is about process and experience - exploring individually and collectively, in real time, what our bodies are sensing and signaling, and experimenting with new ways to respond. You only need to show up with curiosity to participate!
You will pick up new information along the way, and you may learn from the experiences of others in the group who are more familiar with somatics. It’s a great place to begin.

This makes sense! Even something that’s meant to be nurturing or helpful can feel like another task when you’re in burnout. This is an invitation to you to drop down into rest and the support of others, even if only for an hour and twenty minutes a week. For you, “practicing embodiment” in this group might mean acknowledging and saying “yes” to the part of you that needs to collapse on the couch and let us hold space for you.
When we say we are creating a space of collective care and mutuality, this means we commit to bringing what we have (presence in itself is a gift), and receiving what we need, trusting that in the collective there is enough to go around.

Groups hold a lot of layered experience for many (if not all!) of us. Just as we can experience some of the most powerful, important things in groups (belonging, welcome, support, being seen and heard, acceptance, care) - we’ve often experienced the opposite.
Our intention with this group is to offer a lot of choice and scaffolding to meet these fears. You can have your camera off or on. You can be far from the screen. You can be doodling, curled up under the covers, moving and fidgeting, laying down, etc. You are invited to be honest about what’s difficult, weird, annoying, or uncomfortable about the group! Your whole experience is welcome.

While I offer many workshops that current and past clients are welcome to join, Homebody has been designed as a container for folks that do not do clinical work with me or Bethany. You are welcome to discuss this in session or set up a call if you have any questions about this limitation.
Note: If you are a current or past client interested in joining the group, please discuss with me in session or over email about your interest.
