How is somatic therapy different?

If you have been in traditional talk therapy and found it has taken you as far as you can go and you are looking for a deeper sense of healing and integration—a somatic approach could be a great fit. Somatic work helps client’s learn the language of their nervous system, move from their head and into their bodies, and cultivate practices that lead to deeper connection with self and others.

SOMATIC EXPERIENCING®

In my work, I center Somatic Experiencing®, a modality that works with a person’s innate resilience and gently helps develop an increased ability to tolerate difficult emotions and sensations. Using this method not only helps clients understand their nervous system and gain valuable skills for self regulation, but it addresses the root causes of trauma to find resolution and integration where many other modalities just treat the symptoms. SE can be an extremely effective tool for both trauma resolution and also finding deeper connection and relationship with one’s body. SE and nervous system techniques have taken me and my clients further in transformation and integration than any other approach I have trained in.

Counseling philosophy

I work from a model that integrates Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems (IFS), psychodynamic/relational therapy, as well as nervous system and attachment theories—all ways to notice the family, cultural and systemic forces that shape us. Through the unique integration of these frameworks, this work invites you into a relationship with your whole self. My perspective is trauma-informed and deeply impacted by the latest research and work on interpersonal neurobiology, nervous system regulation, shame, systemic oppression and liberation. Understanding and healing from the impact of white supremacy is a central lens I bring into the therapy room and I believe this work is an invitation to reclaim our stories, our bodies, and our minds. My practice is affirming to all gender, sexual and relationship expressions.
